Amazon Buys Zappos
I just read that Amazon is going to buy Zappos. Like many people, I’m a concerned. Zappos has an amazing customer service model that Amazon just doesn’t have (and actually, in my experience, Amazon has been pretty good). I would hate to see the free overnight shipping and awesome return policy disappear. Zappos has been a leader in how to treat customers.
This news comes during a week where Amazon is getting slammed for deleting purchased books from the Kindle (which is another discussion - if you buy something digitally, is it really yours?).
It would be nice if Amazon truly looked at this as a partnership rather than an acquisition.
“We will continue to build the Zappos brand and culture in our own unique way, and we believe Amazon is the best partner to help us do this over the long term,” said Tony Hsieh, CEO of Zappos, in a written statement.
I hope so. I like what Seth Godin has to say about the deal. As usual, good point.
